Service Detail
From the moment a prescription leaves a ward to the moment it's in the patient's hands — BMTS manages every step, keeps the patient informed, and handles the unexpected.
How It Works
A tracked, documented journey at every stage — for the hospital, the pharmacy, and the patient.
A ward nurse, discharge team, or outpatient coordinator contacts BMTS — by phone, email, or via our digital platform. The prescription details, patient address, and any special handling instructions are logged immediately.
A BMTS driver attends the ward or collection point, signs for the FP10 prescription, and the collection is time-stamped and logged in our system. Chain of custody begins here.
BMTS transports the prescription to the designated dispensing pharmacy — either the hospital's own pharmacy or an agreed community pharmacy. The handoff is signed and logged.
While the medication is being dispensed, the patient receives a notification — by SMS or email — confirming their delivery window. If the time doesn't suit, they can reschedule directly, request a safe location, or add delivery instructions.
Once dispensed, BMTS collects the completed medication from the pharmacy, verified against the prescription. Temperature-sensitive items are placed in validated packaging where required.
The driver arrives at the patient's address, confirms identity where required, and records the recipient's name and a GPS-verified delivery point as proof of delivery. If no one is home, the pre-agreed safe place or neighbour instruction is followed.
Delivery confirmation — including timestamp, proof of delivery, and any notes — is automatically sent back to the referring hospital and dispensing pharmacy. The full audit trail is retained in the BMTS platform.
Patient Experience
Patients aren't passive recipients. Our notification and rescheduling system means they always know what's happening and can take action if their circumstances change.
If the delivery window doesn't work, the patient can reschedule via a link in their SMS or email — no phone call required. The updated slot is reflected in the driver's schedule automatically.
Automated notifications at every key stage — prescription received, being dispensed, driver en route, delivered. Patients always know where their medication is.
Changed location? Staying with family? Patients can update their delivery address up until the driver departs — no need to call the hospital or pharmacy.
Patients can specify a safe place — a porch, with a neighbour, in a letterbox — so delivery is completed even if they're not home. Instructions are passed directly to the driver.
The patient gets a heads-up notification when the driver is 30 minutes away — giving them time to be home, arrange access, or confirm the safe place.
Once delivered, the patient receives a confirmation with a timestamp and the driver's name. The same confirmation goes to the hospital and pharmacy for their records.
Patient Notifications
Clear, timely, actionable updates — sent directly to the patient's phone at every stage of their delivery.
Everything is delivered by SMS or email link — patients don't need to download anything or create an account.
Large text, plain language, high contrast. Accessible to elderly and vulnerable patients who may not be tech-confident.
No medication details shared in notifications. Links are single-use and time-limited. Patient data handled in line with NHS information governance standards.
Clinical teams can see live delivery status via the BMTS platform — no need to chase the patient or the driver.
Delivery Types
Not all pharmacy deliveries are the same. BMTS handles urgent discharges, planned outpatient prescriptions, and ongoing repeat deliveries.
Patient is being discharged and needs medication before they can go home, or delivered to their address later the same day.
Prescription written at an outpatient appointment, collected and delivered at a time convenient for the patient.
Patients on long-term medications receive a regular scheduled delivery — removing the need to collect from a surgery or pharmacy each month.
We'll walk you through how the service integrates with your existing processes — no sign-up, no commitment.
